When we turn on the open sign this early November, we will be starting our 40th Christmas season.
The highs and lows and ups and downs of running a small family business are significant; our first year could have been our last.
In the beginning, we couldn’t afford many of the safeguards that we have in place today (alarm systems and back-up heaters). One very cold October morning I came into the greenhouse to find our temperamental boiler had gone out in the night. It was 40o in the greenhouse, and poinsettias do not like the cold. They were drooping terribly, and looked like they were a lost cause. It wasn’t until much later in the day (a very long day!) that they perked up a bit and by the next day they were fine…all was not lost! The crop turned out beautifully and we sold them all.
I could fill a book with experiences like that and also a sequel with successes to match the near misses. We have been blessed to survive and thrive for 40 years and could never have done it without our family of very dedicated employees, and you, our valued customers. We can’t thank you all enough.
Christmas 2020…obviously not business as usual. We will be open and have our traditional selection of beautiful homegrown poinsettias and freshly made wreathes, roping, kissing balls, and more. We sadly had to make the decision to eliminate our normal classes, and we are sorry for the inconvenience.
We will do our best to provide a safe shopping environment and will offer curbside pick-up. Feel free to call for more information about our operating procedures. Our crew has been very busy and we look forward to being part of your holiday decorating traditions.
Once again, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for helping Cerny’s achieve this milestone.
